Stronger, Scalable Solutions to Meet Alaska’s Housing Needs

Across Alaska, communities face persistent housing shortages, high construction costs, and logistical challenges that make conventional construction difficult—particularly in remote regions. Alaska-manufactured prestressed precast concrete offers a durable, energy-efficient housing solution designed for rapid assembly, long-term performance, and the unique demands of building across the state.

At our Nikiski manufacturing campus, we’re putting that concept into practice with a full-scale demonstration home built with APS hollowcore floors and precast wall panels. The project serves as a real-world proving ground for the system, giving housing authorities, community leaders, designers, contractors, and other partners an opportunity to see the components come together and consider how precast housing can be adapted for communities across Alaska.

PRECAST BOARD ROAD DEMONSTRATION | NIKISKI, AK
A Better Way to Build Alaska’s Access Infrastructure

Access infrastructure takes many forms in Alaska—from board roads and elevated walkways that provide passage across tundra, wetlands, and challenging terrain to utility corridors and remote access routes that help connect communities, worksites, and critical infrastructure.

APS built a full-scale precast board road at our Nikiski manufacturing campus to demonstrate how locally manufactured prestressed precast hollowcore can be applied to these challenges. The project gives engineers, owners, communities, and contractors a tangible opportunity to explore the system, understand how it can be adapted for different applications and design requirements, and consider a new approach to building Alaska’s access infrastructure.

BLOCK 41 PROJECT | DOWNTOWN ANCHORAGE
A landmark redevelopment project for Anchorage

We're proud to be part of one of downtown Anchorage's most significant redevelopment projects. The new Block 41 Garage, owned by Peach Holdings LLC, is the first phase in the transformation of the former Fourth Avenue Theatre site. The project team includes Roger Hickel Contracting as General Contractor, DCI Engineers as Structural Engineer, and Perkins&Will as Architect.

Alaska Precast Solutions will manufacture the precast spandrel panels that wrap the exterior of each level of the parking garage, while Alaska Concrete Solutions is providing the specialty concrete pumping services required for the project's intricate post-tensioned parking decks. Designed to support future development above, the five-story garage is a key milestone in the revitalization of downtown Anchorage.
